About
"The City’s only dedicated Pilates studio delivers up to the minute tuition that gets results."
Pilates is a gentle form of exercise which tones and stretches the body, adding strength without bulk. It is often recommended for people who suffer from back or neck problems, those with a previous sport’s injury, and can be beneficial during pregnancy.
At Canterbury Pilates we teach matwork, machine-based studio sessions and Allegro® Reformer Classes using equipment by Balanced Body of California, the world's leading manufacturer of Pilates machines. These machines incorporate pulleys and springs which can be increased/decreased to alter muscle resistance.
The size of classes is very important to us and we aim to keep numbers small to ensure quality of instruction and close monitoring.
For the beginner who is new to Pilates we recommend at least one lesson on a private one-to-one basis. This enables the instructor to emphasize the core principles of Pilates and assess the client for suitability in a matwork class. Those clients who wish to participate in machine-based sessions will usually make the transition from a matwork class.
